It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Robert Douglas MacDonald, age
62, of Amherst. Robert “Rob” Douglas MacDonald passed away
peacefully at Gables lodge, surrounded by family on February 8th,
2024.
A loving husband, son, father and
grandfather, Rob was born in Sydney Nova Scotia, of his parents Gloria
and Doug MacDonald of Moncton, NB.
Rob grew up in the Riverview area. As a
young man, Rob developed a passion for playing hockey as a goalie,
fishing, and driving anything with an engine. He formed lifelong
friendships and met his wife Lana when he was 12. Rob graduated from
Riverview High School and went on to study automotive management at
Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
Rob moved to Amherst to start a family
and continue pursuing his ambitions in the automotive industry. He
became dealer principal of Bordertown GM in Amherst at age 24. Rob
transitioned to the Honda brand in 1991, where he stayed for the
remainder of his successful thirty year career. He ran these
dealerships alongside his dedicated and beloved wife
Lana.
Rob is survived by his wife Lana of 40
years, parents Gloria and Doug, son Ryan (Nicole), daughter Erin
(Geoff), sister Wendy and grandchildren Nolan, Austin, Sydney and
Carson. He was predeceased by his brother David.
Anyone who met Rob knew of his gentle
and kind nature, as well as his selfless giving to friends and the
community. Rob had an innate ability to make those around him both
happier and inspired to be a better.

Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where an Afternoon of Remembrance will
be held on Saturday, February 24 from 2 to 4 pm. All are
welcome to attend and help in sharing memories of Rob.
We’d like to extend a sincere
thank you to the staff at Gables nursing home for their compassion and
support throughout Rob’s stay.
We would also like to thank the
caregivers who assisted Rob while he was living at home. Finally, our
heartfelt appreciation to the family and friends who’ve
supported us during this time.
Donations in his memory can be made to
the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the After the School
Bell food program.
