Paul Ram Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Yogi Ram on January 20, 2024, at the Loch Lomond Village, with the love of his family by his side. He was born in Delhi, India on August 20, 1936, to the late Lekh and Matri (Sharma) Ram. Paul was predeceased by his first wife, Isabel (Anstey) Ram and was the loving husband to his second wife, Kathleen (Burbridge) Ram.
Paul immigrated to Canada in the late 60’s with less than $100 to his name. With the help of a kind gentleman he befriended on the flight to Toronto he began his life in Canada. This new friend gave him room and board and helped him find a job at a local grocery store. In the early 70’s, after receiving generous help from a complete stranger due to a flat tire, what was supposed to be a quick stop in Saint John enroute to moving to Halifax, turned into Paul making Saint John his permanent home. In his words, “this is my kind of city”. Paul is best known as the owner of Diamond Taxi and Diamond Coach Lines. Paul provided many jobs to new taxi drivers and supported the success of many of those individuals. As a true entrepreneur, Paul felt that rules were more like guidelines. Paul was also very kind, caring and thoughtful. He was courteous and gave a lot of himself to help others. He was an active member of the PC Party of Canada and was also a huge fan of the Montreal Canadians. Paul had a passion for playing horseshoes and was the world champion and Canadian champion for his age group in the same year. He was also inducted into the NB Hall of Fame. He was a lovely man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by his sons, Maurice, Paul (Jennifer) and Derek (Tara); his daughter, Trina Crawford; his 7 grandchildren, Brenden, Justin, Maxime, Derrien, Noah, Lauren and Isabelle; his two great grandchildren, Coraline and Alasdair; his brothers, Ishwer (Radni) Sharma and Ram Niwas Sharma; his sister, Chameli Kaushik; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kanta Sharma.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 11 am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. For those who wish, memorial donations to The Joshua Group and to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family.
