Nancy Huttges Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the Huttges and Armstrong families announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Gail Huttges. She was born in Sus, NB on January 20th, 1957 to her loving parents Nigel and Lesley Armstrong.
Nancy spent her summers in St. Martins, where she would later build a home and raise her daughters Natasha and Jennifer. She met the love of her life, Bruce, as a teenager. After a few years of summer romance, they married on August 9, 1980.
Nancy was a born educator. She graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Arts and Special Education, and later received her Masters of Education from UNB. She taught children that it’s ok to make mistakes, math CAN be fun, and that sometimes things explode in science class. She gave all who entered her classroom a safe space to experience success. Nancy was also a professional skating coach, a Deacon in the St Martins Baptist Church for 25 years, a mentor to many, and a confidante to all.
Nancy had a gift for hospitality that made her home a welcoming sanctuary to all who graced her door, and she had a gentle warmth that set people at ease. An expert baker and chef, she took great joy in gathering family and friends at her table for culinary adventures. Nancy could weave stories in a way that captivated her students, family and friends. She had quick wit and dry humor, and she enjoyed a good mental spar.
Nancy was talented beyond imagination. Any project or endeavor that she tackled was executed with the skill of an expert on her first try. She was musically gifted, a skilled artist and painter, and the queen of random knowledge. She could mow a lawn with unparalleled precision and speed.
After retiring from teaching, Nancy and Bruce spent their winters traveling where they often took cruises and brought family and friends along on their adventures. With a playful spirit and childlike wonder, Nancy made every vacation magical.
In addition to her mother Lesley, Nancy is survived by her devoted husband Bruce, loving daughter Natasha Parsons, favourite son-in-law Kevin Parsons, little sister Linda Armstrong, mother-in-law Verna Huttges, sisters-in-law Debbie, Sylvia, and Brenda, brothers-in-law Kevin, Wayne and Tyson, along with numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins and very dear friends. She will be missed tremendously by her cats Cheddar, Larry, and Kitty. Nancy was welcomed into the arms of her savior Jesus to reunite with her father Nigel and beloved daughter Jennifer.
As said by Jesus in the book of Matthew
“Well done faithful servant.”
The family welcomes all who loved Nancy to join them in celebrating her life on Monday, January 8 from 5-8pm at the CE Center at the St Martins Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 9 at 11am at the St Martins Baptist Church, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Nancy’s memory to Bobby’s Hospice, The St Martins Baptist Church or by supporting local stray cat programs via Stoneybrook Veterinary Services.
