Glenna Jack Obituary
The family of Glenna Bernice Jack is sad to announce her death on May 18, 2024 at the age of 89 in Saint John. She was the only child of Smith and Lillian (Brien) Cathline. Mum grew up in Golden Grove and spent many happy weekends and summers with her cousins at the Brien homestead in Moss Glen. Mum and Dad (the late Ted Jack) were married in 1958 and had the four of us, Susan (Stéphane Bolduc), Peter (Debbie), David (Effie Beaton) and Jamie (Stacie Field). We are grateful that we had a mother who always prioritized adventures with us kids over a clean house! We lived in Fundy Heights (Saint John) for many years before Mum & Dad retired to Pennfield. Mum was a lifelong teacher. After Teacher’s College she taught in several places around Fredericton. She also ran a kindergarten in her home for many years, was a lecturer for Weight Watchers and led Bible Studies for more than 30 years. She was a lifelong Anglican providing lay leadership in the parishes of Carleton and St. George. She was also a lifelong baker. At age 10, when her mother went to work, she took over all baking for her family of 3. We can still taste those cookies that were always waiting for us when we visited.
She leaves behind three wonderful grandchildren, Miranda Bailey (Greg), Aaron (Katherine) and Alex. Before marrying Dad, Mum had a child who she gave up for adoption. We are so grateful that Phil Peck (Rosalind) came into our lives 28 years ago. ‘Thanks’ is not a big enough word for all the loving care she received at the Carleton-Kirk Lodge by the wonderful staff and compassionate doctors who cared for Mum for over six years. We are grateful to you all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). In keeping with Glenna’s wishes cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, May 25th from 1-2 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 PM. Should you want to make a donation to honour Mum’s life please consider the Carleton-Kirk Lodge Recreation Department (506-643-7040), the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or MS Canada.
