Ernesto Calang Astrologo Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernesto Calang Astrologo, which occurred on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 23, 1951, he was the son of Estelita and the late Manuel Astrologo.
Ernie, as he was mostly called, was a licensed mechanical engineer and was proud of it. After graduating university, he entered the workforce and immersed himself in the maritime shipping and manning industry. Before he retired in 2018, he was a senior marine surveyor and auditor for more than 20 years. At work, Ernie was known for being a hard worker. He was straightforward and dedicated. His discipline and worth ethics were second to none.
He was an active member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo or the Church of Christ. With the guidance of its administration, he, together with his spouse, initiated the establishment of the church’s worship service in Saint John. At present, this initiative has spread across the maritimes as more group worship services and locales were established. At church, he was known as Ka Ernie or tatay (father). He was a well-respected group worship service overseer, who relentlessly performed his church duties until the very end.
To his family, he was simply papa, lolo, uncle and kuya. He will always be remembered as someone who fiercely loved his family and worked extra hard to give them a comfortable life. He was a doting grandfather and adored his four grandchildren.
Ernie was survived by his loving wife Milagros Astrologo; children Paul (Myrthel), Nhel, John (Maika); grandchildren Nathan, Zyrese, Makayla and Callie; mother Estelita; siblings Merlyn, Judelina, Emmanuel, Enrico, Eloim, Bella, Juvelyn and Edgar; countless nieces, nephews and in laws both here in Canada and in the Philippines.
Along with his father Manuel, he was predeceased by his brothers Edward, Edilberto and Erdy.
Our heartfelt thanks to the healthcare team of the Palliative Care Unit in Saint John Regional Hospital, who took great care of him and showed him compassion, love and kindness; to the Iglesia Ni Cristo district officers of Ottawa for the spiritual support; to our in laws Edward Jnell and Divina Pille for the never ending support and care; to all our brethren in Christ who showed their support and concern.
Ernie is resting at Fundy Funeral Homes, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506) 646-2424. The visitation is on Monday, January 01 and Tuesday, January 02, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery on Wednesday, January 03, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
