It is with deep sadness we announce
the peaceful passing of Vernon Gordon
Rafter of Midgic, NB at the
Drew Nursing Home on August 9, 2024, at the age of
92 years.
Vernon is predeceased
by his beautiful wife Loretta Elvira (Troop); his
parents Rufus and Edith (Holland); his brothers,
Melvin, Frank, Ernest, Angus and Alfred as well as sisters May Parson,
Muriel Cook, Annie Rafter, Marjorie Fisher.
Vernon will be lovingly remembered by
his three children; Kimberley Johnson (the late Robert)
of Westcock, NB; Lori Musser (Robert) of
Cocoa Beach, Fl and Michael Rafter (Alma Power) of Iqaluit,
NU; and as ‘Papa Vern’ to
his grandchildren, Isabelle, Nicholas and
Maia.
Vernon had a large circle of friends and
acquaintances; he never failed to make an impression on those he
met.
Vernon was widely read and could have a
conversation about any subject; but his greatest love
was nature and was an
‘environmentalist’ long before the importance was
widely recognized. Vern always did things in his own
way and in his own time; and the
stories and memories of his long life will be lovingly
remembered and told for years to come.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB
(506-364-1300). Internment will take place at the Midgic
Cemetery at a later date.
Sharing of memories and condolences may
be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at
