Kathleen Theresa (Shortall) Brown
1929-2024
Rexton NB – It is with sadness that the family
announces the passing of Kathleen Theresa Brown on Saturday, November
16, 2024, at the Rexton Lions Nursing Home. Born in South Branch on
August 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anne
(Connors) Shortall. Kay was the wife of the late Thomas Brown of South
Branch.
Kay will be sadly missed by her sister, Mary Wood, of Rowley,
MA; brother Paul (Mary) of Roachville, NB; sister-in-law Phyllis
Shortall of South Branch; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and
friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Kay was predeceased by son
Gerald; sisters Margaret (Doherty), Helen (Bushey), and Ruth
(Grattan); brothers James and Raymond; sisters-in-law Mable Shortall,
Mary Brown, Serena Hudson, Bessie Walsh, Anne Glencross;
brothers-in-law Harold Doherty, Manual Bushey, George Grattan, Billy
Wood, Bernard Hudson, Earl Walsh, Ernie Murphy, Dave Brown, Eddy
Brown, Charlie Brown, and Billy Brown; and father-in-law James
Brown.
Following the career paths of her three older sisters, Kay
attended school in Rexton, Saint-Louis, and Normal School in
Fredericton, preparing her to become a teacher. Kay enjoyed her
teaching career in small country schools in Kent County, like East
Branch and Elsipogtog.
Kay enjoyed letter writing and keeping in touch with family
members. She always attended every birthday or anniversary. Her last
11 years at the Rexton Lions Nursing Home were spent visiting and
enjoying activities. She received exceptional care in a family
environment. A special thank you to Elaine Krawchuck, who took very
good care of her aunt. Kathleen faithfully attended St. Peter’s Church
in South Branch and loved participating in parish
events.
A celebration of Kay’s life and time of fellowship will be
held in the spring at St. Peters Church in South Branch and will be
announced at a later date.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson’s
Funeral Home, Richibucto (506-523-4252).
