Obituary of Catherine Mary (Yavis) Foster
It is with profound sadness that the family of Cathy Foster (nee Yavis) announce her unexpected passing on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Cathy was born to the late Helen and Christopher Yavis. She is survived by her husband, Gregory Foster; children, Sean (Amanda) Foster and Derek (Sarah) Foster and her beloved grandchildren, Anna, Will, Lennon and Piper. Cathy was part of a large, close family and is survived by Laura (Blaine) Smith, Leslie Romans, Casey (Marjorie) Yavis and Lynn (Michael) Park and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Conrad Yavis, brother-in-law Ernie Romans, nieces Jacqueline Smith and Penny Park and great-niece Rebecca Smith.
Cathy joined the military at 17 years old as a Supply Technician. Her postings took her to Summerside, PEI; Gagetown, NB; Masset, BC; Wainwright, AB; Halifax, NS and Shearwater, NS. Upon her retirement, she went back to work at Base Gagetown until she decided it was time to retire for good. Cathy and Greg loved to travel to Florida to avoid the cold winters of New Brunswick.
If you knew Cathy, then you knew her to be the most generous person in the world. She was thoughtful of others and often surprised them with unexpected gifts. Cathy spent most of her free time with her family. Her siblings were her best friends and when they were apart, they still spent time together online doing daily puzzles and competitive word games. Cathy’s pride and joy were her sons. She loved spending time with them and especially enjoyed their fantastic sense of humour. Cathy could often be found shopping for gifts for her grandchildren, for she loved to spoil them.
There will be no visitation by request and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul church in Oromocto on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 am. For those who wish, a donation can be made in her name to the Oromocto SPCA, for Cathy dearly loved animals.
