With profound sadness, the family announces the death of Philip Murray Yerxa of Scotch Settlement, NB on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Hospice House Fredericton. Born on December 18, 1952 in Jewetts Mills, NB, Philip is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, June (MacDonald) of Scotch Settlement, NB and his daughter Shannon (Colin) Leger of Geary, NB; his two beloved grandsons, Olivier and Maxwell Leger of Geary, NB; a sister, Judy Fullarton (Douglas) of Moncton, NB and many nieces and nephews including special nephews, Lawrence and Neil Yerxa of Scotch Settlement, NB.
Philip was predeceased by his father, Eldon Yerxa and mother, Myrtle Whitehead; his brother, Howard (Charlotte) Yerxa and sister, Marilyn Yerxa. Philip was a butcher by trade working with Yerxa’s Meats and his nephews Larry and Neil Yerxa. Over the years, Philip also worked in the woods and on farms, being a man with a strong work ethic he wasn’t afraid of a hard day’s work and did what he needed to earn a living for his family.
Dad was a quiet man who lived very privately. His first priority and what always mattered most was his family. He spoiled us often with treats, whether it was a pizza party on a random Friday afternoon or a bottle of his maple syrup that he boiled every spring. Dad was always thinking of us. His absolute pride and joy were his two grandsons whom he loved dearly. They will miss his presence as they grow up, but will cherish the many sweet memories they have of summer visits at Pup’s place, and the weekly visits with Pup at their house.
The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the DECRH, St. John Regional Oncology Unit and Hospice House Fredericton for their excellent care of Philip. Special thank you to Larry and Marie for keeping the lawn mowed and to Betty for watering the flowers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. There will be no visitation or funeral. A private graveside service will be held at the Scotch Settlement Cemetery, Scotch Settlement, NB.
Philip and June supported many children over the past 25 years through World Vision Canada. Donations can be made in his memory to Greener Village, Fredericton Homeless Shelter, Hospice House Fredericton, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
