It is with heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Luc J. Martin, husband of Michelle (Guitard) Martin of Lincoln, NB, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at his home. Born on July 25, 1967 in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of the late Roméo and Claudette (Lagacé) Martin. After graduating from high school, Luc moved to Toronto for work, before making his way to Montréal where he worked with Pandrol Canada for 12 years, before returning to New Brunswick in 2004 to be closer to family.
In his younger days, Luc was a star hockey goalie, and a power hitting catcher in baseball. He was such an influence on his siblings that both brothers followed in his footsteps at the catcher position. Luc loved to golf while living in Montréal. He even had a hole-in-one in 2001, for which he was extremely proud. He had a wonderful sense of humour. He enjoyed telling jokes and teasing. Often, his laughter would reach the point of tears.
Beyond all other hobbies and interests, his main passion was playing guitar. He was a talented musician and loved playing the blues up in his loft for hours on end and jamming online with friends from around the world while watching his beloved Blue Jays and Maple Leafs lose another game on TV. He could talk about music for hours and entertain you with intricate stories.
In addition to the love of his life for 36 years, Michelle, Luc is survived by his siblings, Marc Martin (Kelly Short-Martin) of Hanwell, Guy Martin (Michèle Roy) of Pointe-Verte, France Martin of Petit-Rocher; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Guitard of Lincoln; as well as nieces and nephews Sindy (goddaughter), Kelsey, Rebecca, Zach and Samuel.
Besides his parents, Luc was predeceased by his father-in-law, Philip Guitard.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 6 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. A Celebration of Luc’s Life will follow in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, at 6 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Diabetes Canada or a charitable organization of their choice. C’est avec le cœur brisé que nous annonçons le décès soudain de Luc J. Martin, époux de Michelle (Guitard) Martin, de Lincoln (N.-B.) à sa résidence le mardi 28 mai 2024. Né le 25 juillet 1967 à Bathurst (N.-B.), il était le fils de feu Roméo et de feue Claudette (Lagacé) Martin. Après l’école secondaire, Luc est déménagé à Toronto pour y travailler, et ensuite à Montréal où il a travaillé pour Pandrol Canada pendant 12 ans, avant de finalement revenir au Nouveau-Brunswick en 2004 pour se rapprocher de sa famille.
Dans sa jeunesse, Luc était un excellent gardien de but au hockey et un receveur et frappeur de puissance au baseball. Ses deux frères l’admiraient tellement qu’ils ont eux aussi suivi ses traces pour devenir receveurs au baseball. Luc adorait jouer au golf pendant qu’il était à Montréal. Il a même réussi un trou d’un coup en 2001, un exploit dont il était très fier. Il avait un très bon sens de l’humour. Il aimait raconter des blagues et taquiner les autres, surtout sa famille. Souvent, il en riait jusqu’aux larmes.
Mais plus que tout, sa principale passion était la guitare. Il était un excellent musicien et adorait jouer du blues dans le grenier de son garage aussi souvent que possible, jouant en ligne avec des amis du monde entier en regardant ses Blue Jays et ses Maple Leafs perdre à la télévision. Il pouvait parler de musique pendant des heures et nous divertir avec ses histoires détaillées.
En plus de l’amour de sa vie pendant 36 ans, son épouse Michelle, Luc laisse dans le deuil et la tristesse ses frères Marc Martin (Kelly Short-Martin), de Hanwell, et Guy Martin (Michèle Roy), de Pointe-Verte, sa sœur France Martin, de Petit-Rocher; sa belle-mère, Eleanor Guitard, de Lincoln; ainsi que ses neveux et nièces Sindy (filleule), Kelsey, Rebecca, Zach et Samuel.
Outre ses parents, Luc a été précédé dans la tombe par son beau-père, Philip Guitard.
Les membres de la famille accueilleront parents et amis de 17 h à 18 h le vendredi 31 mai 2024 au Salon funéraire York, 302, promenade Brookside, à Fredericton. Une célébration de la vie de Luc suivra à 18 h à la chapelle T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel du Salon funéraire York.
