The passing of Garth Alden Hunter of Boiestown, NB, husband of Bernice (Black) Hunter, occurred on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. Born on April 30, 1935 in Hayesville, NB, he was the son of the late Clair and Susan (Boies) Hunter. Garth was a woodsman and foreman for several companies up until retirement. He was an avid hunter and fishing guide as well as a coach for many sports over the years including hockey, broomball and softball. He was Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Normandy Branch in Boiestown, a past member of Landmark Masonic Lodge #51 in Boiestown and spent many years as a member of the Boiestown Athletic Association.
Garth is survived by his children, Susan Spencer (Morton) of Parker Ridge, Boyd Hunter (Janice) of Nanaimo, BC, Grant Hunter (Crystal) of Fredericton; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth Spencer of Woodstock, Bertie Hunter of Fredericton, Stanley Hunter (Joy) of Yoho Lake; numerous nieces and nephews
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandsons, Michael and Kyle; and siblings, Helen Bruce, Doris Doak, Blaine Hunter, Percy Hunter.
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Chapel, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 1 to 3 pm with the Funeral Service following directly at 3 pm with Rev. Brian Curtis officiating. Interment will be in Boiestown United Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Normandy Branch or Boiestown United Church.
