The passing of Eva Jean Howe (nee Meade), wife of the late William “Bill” Howe, occurred on Thursday, December 14th, 2023 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on October 20th, 1927 in Burton, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Howe) Meade. Eva was affiliated with Wilmot United Church.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Darlene Durling, Jean Whitlock and Cheryl Smith. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Steven Whitlock (Julie), Tim Whitlock (Anne Marie) and their children, Jenna and Erin; Sarah Smith (Matthew) and their children, Beth and Theo; Christopher Smith (Monica) and Ross Durling and his daughter, Zarollina. She is also survived by her sister, Etta Robertson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Eva was predeceased by her sons-in-law: Stephen Smith, Bill Whitlock and David Durling; sisters, Florence Delong, Doris Howe and Helen Sharpe; as well as her brothers, Wilfred, George, Charles, Harvey, Kenneth and Karl Meade.
Eva was happily married to her husband Bill and took great pride in her family. She enjoyed salmon fishing, bowling, golfing, square dancing and playing games. Eva made many friends with these activities and travelled to many special square dancing events with her husband. Her other passion was the family camp which she built with her husband and they spent many wonderful years there fishing and spending time with both family and friends. Eva lived a vibrant and active life, and left her family with many precious memories.
In keeping with Eva’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A Private Family burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Burton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, Hospice Fredericton (Palliative Care Resource Network Inc.), Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
