The passing of Albert James Atkins, husband of Joyce (Deveau) Atkins of Fredericton occurred on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 13, 1933 in Yarmouth , NS , he was the son of the late Albert “Abby” and Ada Harriet ( Meuse ) Atkins. Albert was an aircraft supervisor and Warrant Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He spent 32 years at various posting across Canada and Europe .
After his retirement in 1983, he prospected in New Brunswick for 10 years. He loved the outdoors, camping and being one with nature. He also delivered for “Meals on Wheels” for over 30 years on the Miramichi and maintained contact with everyone he served over those years.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Alan (Tiffany Russell); grandson, Matthew (Ji); great-grandchildren, Jenna and Ara; daughter-in-law, Alma.
Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his son, Bruce; sister, Marion Murphy; brother, Colin; daughter-in-law, Juanita.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive , Fredericton , NB on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6-8 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to any SPCA location. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
