The Death of Patricia desChamps occurred on November 20, 2024 with the comfort of the MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) program.
A long time resident of Fredericton, Patricial believed strongly in the Fredericton community. She championed everything the city had to offer including the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival, local art galleries and music venues. In her home she hosted Drag Storytime, music concerts and book readings. She was a patron of the Fredericton Playhouse. She was a devoted member of the Raging Grannies, Fredericton gaggle for 30 years.
She was a noted CFA Persian and Himalayan cat breeder and volunteered with CARMA. She was Past President of the Epsilon Y’s Menettes and along with them was awarded the YMCA International Peace Medallion. She was Maritime Regional Director of Y’s Menettes. She was treasurer of New Brunswick Crime Stoppers for five years and a board member of Capital Region Crime Stoppers for many years. She chaired the Municipal Advisory Committee for Persons with a Disability for eight years.
Patricia leaves her brothers Ken Des Champ of Peterborough, and Robert Des Champ of Kitchener, and sisters-in-law Karin Des Champ, Wendy Des Champ, and Diane Stiles all of Ontario.
She leaves wonderful friends Krista Mercer Robichaud, Alisa Carnall, Nannette Williams, Carolyn Murray, Linda Calhoun, Sumeet Kaur, Marg Martell, Sheila Andrew, Marian Lucas-Jeffries, Sandra Buckenham, Laurie McInnis, Mary Tortcat, Tammy Price, Anne Stewart, Bonny Thornton, Sharon Griffin, Alanna Cabatu, Grainne Ni Fhoighil, Jen Morrison, Paula Carmichael, Julia Tompkins-Bannister, Karl Dore, Bob Bunker, Andrew Somerville, and especially Khalid Hasan.
Patricia requested no funeral. Monetary gifts in remembrance to the Unitarian Fellowship of Fredericton (tuff.ca) would be appreciated.
