Jacqueline Bastarache
1942-2024
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of
Jacqueline Claire (Cormier) Bastarache on September 18, 2024 at the
Stella-Maris Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, NB. She is survived by
her husband, Merville (Merv), Bastarache and their two children, Marc
Bastarache (Emily & daughter Hannah) and Daniele (Arthur) Doyle
and two grandchildren, Katelyn & Madison Doyle.
Jackie is also survived by her three sisters-in-law, Pauline (Gerry)
Levesque, Carmen (Henry) Bourgeois, and pre deceased by Murielle
(Hermel) LaForge. She was also pre deceased by her parents, Adelard
& Rosalie (Richard) Cormier.
Jacqueline (Jackie) was born in Moncton, NB. on September 27, 1942,
and often spoke of her happy childhood memories spending summers
swimming in the river by Sainte Marie with her cousin JP, and playing
pranks while babysitting her younger cousins, Rachel, Pauline &
Gisele
Jackie and Merv were married July 13, 1963, and started their journey
together in Montreal, Quebec, where their two children, Marc and
Daniele were born. Through Merv’s work and their adventurous
spirits, they lived in Bolton, Ontario, Raleigh, North Carolina,
Plano, Texas, Istanbul, Turkey, Melbourne, Australia, Hong Kong, and
Beijing, China, where he retired in 1996. They retired in Bradenton,
Florida initially and then returned to Bouctouche in 2004, where they
first met as young teenagers.
Jackie was a lifelong learner and had a knack for learning facts and
different languages. She loved animals of all kinds, especially cats,
and had such a very generous spirit. She was very proud of her Acadian
heritage, and enjoyed spending time with family, close friends and her
cats. She loved reading, listening to music and entertaining guests
for dinner. Her home was always festively decorated for each holiday,
& season. She was an excellent cook, so many of her recipes were
passed on to family & friends.
She was also very proud of her grandchildren, Katelyn and Madison, and
accompanied Katelyn’s family to Santiago, Chile, Montreal,
Toronto, and San Francisco, California on several medical treatment
trips. She always followed Madison’s school activities, social
and sports news regularly with great interest.
Our dear Jackie will be forever in our hearts.
There will be a Celebration of Life, date to be announced at a later
date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian
Cancer Society.
