Obituary of FRANK STRUSS
FRANK STRAUSS
November 7, 1939 – September 20, 2024
Frank will be remembered by his three children Mario (Debby), Nancy (Trevor), Ramona (Carl), by his dear friend Margret, his two younger siblings in Germany, Maria and Mathias, by nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Germany, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and by his step-children Peter, Bernhard (Anna), Gabriele (Dominic), Barbara (Craig). Frank was predeceased by his wife Antonia, his brother Andreas, and his sister Christine.
Frank was born in Kroisbach, Hungary but his family moved to Kirch-Brombach, Germany, when he was a young boy. Here he grew up and mastered the trade of carpentry. Frank immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1958 soon after his older sister Christine and her husband had arrived. He enjoyed being in Winnipeg and became a Canadian citizen in 1970.
Frank worked most of his career in complex carpentry projects for V.K. Mason, continually advancing himself and working many years as a superintendent foreman. After leaving the company, he worked for several companies for many more years under private contracts.
Shortly after his arrival in Winnipeg, Frank quickly became a part of a German community in Winnipeg called the Kolping Society where he met his first wife and eventually his second wife. Years later he became a member of the German Society of Winnipeg and remained an active member until his passing. Two of his favorite activities were camping/”cottaging” and hunting. For many years he camped at Grand Beach and eventually invested in a trailer at Camp Neustadt which he quickly modified into a small cottage. He was involved with the management of Camp Neustadt for a few years and the German Society too. Frank also enjoyed singing in the German choirs for both Kolping and the German Society and participating in choir festivals around Canada. Frank also really liked bowling and returned to it in his later years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4287 Main Street.
