Ken Hjorleifson Obituary
Kenneth Victor Palmi Hjorleifson
1938-2023
On November 11th, 2023, Ken passed away suddenly and peacefully at 85 years of age at the Gimli Hospital. Ken is survived by his loving wife Janet; sons Scott (Tricia) and Grant (Tami), grandchildren Luke, Damien, and Ethan. He was predeceased by his parents Palmi and Sigrun Hjorleifson.
Ken was born in Hnausa, Manitoba, and grew up in Gimli where he lived most of his life and owned a gravel truck business until he retired in 2000. He married Janet in 1971 and together they owned an antique store in Gimli for 16 years- “The Past and Present.” Even in retirement he enjoyed the hunt for treasures at yard sales.
He was involved in the community and his children and grandchildren’s lives. Full of life, caring, and an absolute master at growing tomatoes. Also an avid dog lover, he is survived by Gulla, his faithful Australian Shepard.
Special thanks to the medical staff at the Gimli Hospital for the excellent care he received before his passing. There will be a graveside service at the Gimli Community Cemetery at 1:00 p.m June 18, 2024 followed by a reception at Minerva Hall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
