Byron Thomas Obituary
Byron Wayne Thomas
June 4, 1970 – July 30, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Byron Wayne Thomas at Selkirk Hospital on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Byron was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by his two daughters Skyler (Dustin) and Shay-Lynn (Brayden); his mother Denise; his brother Randal (Susan); and his nephews and nieces, Dylan (Courtney), Tyler and Alyssa (Alex).
Byron is predeceased by his father, Wayne Thomas, as well many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Byron was born on June 4, 1970, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When he was young, Byron and his family moved to Grand Marais, Manitoba, where he lived until his passing.
Byron attended Walter Whyte School, where he met many lifelong friends. He went on to graduate from Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School in 1988. Upon graduating high school, he attended Red River College where he received his diploma in Small Motor Mechanics. After working as a mechanic for many years, Byron achieved one his proudest accomplishments by starting his own business, Yronmanz Marine & Powersport, in 2013.
At a young age, Byron found joy in many hobbies, such as playing chess, curling, and creating art, all of which he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He loved sharing stories about being a chess champion and the best curling skip in town. Later in life, Byron purchased a Harley Davidson and loved riding throughout the province and western Ontario. Some of his favourite memories were when he was riding with his cousin Ernie.
Byron shared his love for art with his daughter Shay-Lynn. Together they crafted countless woodwork projects throughout her childhood and up until his passing.
He also loved to travel, which was often with his daughter Skyler. Together, they spent plenty of time exploring the Rocky Mountains, one of Byron’s favourite places to be. He also cherished his trips to Mexico, Victoria, BC and Halifax, NS, finding a sense of peace near the ocean.
Byron was a very kind, loving man who loved to laugh. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 7th at 11am at The Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, with a private burial to follow.
Honourary Pallbearers will be Dylan Thomas, Tyler Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Dustin Hemphill and Brayden Fitkowski.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of Byron.
