Joyce Lee Obituary
Mrs. Joyce Lee of Pierson passed away at the Virden Health Centre, Virden, MB. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the age of 97.
Joyce Ester Marie Lee was born April 9, 1927 at Broadview, SK. After finishing high school, she attended normal school in Regina. As a teenager, she began teaching in rural one room schools. In the late ‘40s, she began studies at Winnipeg Bible Institute (now Providence College) where she met and later married Gordon Lee of Pierson, MB. In the next few years they were accepted as missionaries with Gospel Missionary Union (now Avant), studied Spanish in Costa Rica, and in 1955 began serving in British Honduras (now Belize). Five children, Larry, Roger, Robin, Loren, and Robert were added to the family by 1963. Illness forced retirement in 1985. After Gordon’s death in 1995, she returned to Belize each year until she was no longer able to travel. She enjoyed living in her home at the Pierson Lodge. The internet allowed her to keep in touch with friends across North America that she had accumulated over 97 years. Local friends, including a great team of home care providers, helped make her final years meaningful and fulfilling. On July the 5th, she entered Virden hospital and passed away peacefully a few hours later. In every sense of the word, it was a good life.
Joyce is survived by her children: Larry & wife Leta (nee Kuntz) Lee of Lac du Bonnet; Roger Lee of Pierson and children Jason (Kelly) Penner, Garth (Leanne) Lee, and Rhonda Klassen; Robin Lee-Anderson & husband Gary of Cynthiana, KY, and children Kyla (Brian) Gilbert, Kaitlyn (Daniel) Henson, Karissa (Brandon) Holbrook, and Zachary (Kerri) Anderson; Loren Lee of Pierson; and Robert & wife Charlene (nee Allan) Lee of Belmopan, Belize, and children Blake and Arabella Lee; eight great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Barry Brown.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Gordon Lee, parents Ernest and Isabel (Johanson) Forsman, sisters Estelle Graham and Yvonne Brown, brother Rodger Forsman, brother-in-law Walter Graham, sister-in-law Lois Graham, and daughter-in-law Lilian Lee.
The funeral service for Joyce will be held at the Pierson Community Hall, Pierson, MB. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. A lunch will follow. All are welcome.
