Richard Charles Thompson passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2024, at the Swan Lake Hospital at the age of 61 years with his wife and life long friends by his side.
Born in Manitou, Manitoba, Richard lived on the family farm with his mother Margaret, his father Charlie and five sisters Sandra, Lorraine, Debbie, Maryann and Ethel. He relocated to Manitou in 2007. Richard was extremely loyal to his family, friends and his community.
As a child Richard attended Altamont and Miami Schools until he took on full time employment with the Frisch family farms at the age of 15. Over the course of his life Richard farmed, worked at Feed Rite Mill, ARK, Sigfusson Northern, Keeyask Hydro Project and Central Auto Refurbishing in his final days. To say that Richard was a hard working, devoted employee would understate his incredible work ethic. He was a valued asset to all his employers.
Richard was happiest working in his garden on his John Deer tractor (go green!), cutting grass or blowing snow. He created personalized gifts for those he loved in his work shop and was forever helping anyone in need. He hand crafted many cherished gifts as his legacy.
His children Curtis (Jackie) and Melissa held a special place in his heart, “I loved them from the moment they opened their eyes until the moment I closed mine”.
He will be deeply missed by his step children Andrew (Nicole) and Shelagh as well as seven grandchildren, Daniel, Noal, Sebastian, Ethan, Emersyn, Kinsley and Scarlette. He leaves to mourn a large extended family.
Richard faced many hardships in his lifetime always rising above. This last hardship he could not overcome so he choose to leave us on his own terms. He was a loving, caring, generous man; a good man, who gave of himself to everyone. He will be sorely missed and forever loved.
A public graveside service will be held at the New Haven Cemetery, Manitou, Mb., Tuesday September 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
A special thanks goes out to Frank and Carol Frisch, Nurse Practitioner Stephanie Lesage of Somerset Clinic, the Winnipeg MAID team, Swan Lake Hospital, Don Stewart of Wheatland Funeral Service for their care and compassion.
Till we meet again my love.
