Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Ukrainec
With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Susan Elizabeth Ukrainec on November 26, 2023 at the age of 67. Sue passed away peacefully in her home due to complications from diabetes.
Sue was born on August 1, 1956 to William and Margaret Ukrainec (nee Poersch). She is survived by her partner Anthony (Tony) Atkinson; brother Jim (Brenda); sister Diane (André), nephew Marc (Shereen); and nieces Chauntal (Andrew), Andréa (Milan), Lise-Anne (Ian) and Chelsea (Quinn). Sue will be fondly remembered by great-nephews Liam, Nolan, Branden, Luka, Nikola and great-nieces Claire, Kamryn, Alivia and Avery.
Susan was the co-owner of St. Andrew’s Grocery from the early 1970’s until 1999. Later, she worked at the Real Wholesale Club and General Mills until illness prevented her from continuing to work.
Sue will be remembered as a person who loved to travel and did several memorable shopping trips to Minneapolis and then later on fun trips to Mexico and her beloved Jamaica and Barbados. Anyone who knows Sue will remember her driving her Javelin or Jeep Cherokee with the Beach Boys blaring on the stereo, and as a truly dedicated Coca-Cola fan. Sue was the kind of person who always put others ahead of her own problems. Having worked in the store for many years, she made life-long friends in St. Andrews and will always be remembered.
According to her wishes, no funeral service will be held and cremation has taken place.
Donations can be made in her memory to Diabetes Canada or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
