Maurice “Albert” Joseph Lannoo
January 14, 1945 – February 21, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce Albert passed away February 21, 2024, peacefully at home with loving wife at his side.
Albert was pre-deceased by his parents Maurice and Marguerite Lannoo, sister Lorraine Peterson, and beloved in-laws Wilfred and Eva Sessions.
He leaves behind Betty, his wife of 60 years, his daughter Kim Devloo (Dean Fuller), grandchildren Mark Devloo (Cara), Nicole Devloo (Bryan) and great grandchildren Liam, Reece, and Presley. He also leaves his brothers Ed Lannoo (Sharon), Don Lannoo (Ann), brother in-law Vic Peterson, sister in-law Marion Haacke (Alfred). Very special cousins, Gerry Lannoo (Margaret), Maria Anderson (Earl), nieces Deborah Corlett, Lori Paradis, Heather Daniels (Rob), Amanda Haacke (Phil), Stefani Bright, and Chris Haacke. Great nieces and nephews William Daniels, Violette & Elodie Morrissey. Also, very special to him was Gail Holmes, and his godchildren Karen Laurie, Kathy Landry, Johnny DeGueldre and Christie Ann Remington.
Albert lived his entire life in the Fort Garry area. Growing up on the family farm set the foundation for his strong work ethic, values, and determination. In 1961 he met his soulmate Betty “The Dragon”. They married in 1963 and have been inseparable since. On his 20th birthday they welcomed their only daughter, Kim.
Albert started working at Versatile Manufacturing in March 1964 as a welder, over the years he held several different positions. Retiring in January 2000 as Plant Superintendent. Albert also enjoyed his time farming with his cousin Gerry Lannoo. The old saying “you can take the boy from the farm, but not the farm from the boy”, shows true in both his career and hobbies.
Albert’s greatest loves were family, friends, and classic cars. Albert was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Never missing a school/sporting event or the chance to spoil or tease. He enjoyed time with the great nieces/nephews and his adored great grandchildren. He was always out for coffee, lunch or a get together with one of their many groups of friends. He was well known for his nicknames (Coconut Willy, Frenchy, Spaghetti, Leroy) too many to name, but if you had one, he respected you.
Ever since he was young, he had a passion for classic cars. His 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente was his everyday driver back in the 60’s-70’s, which he later cleaned up and re-painted for cruise nights. During this time completing a ground up restoration of his prized 1956 Mercury Montclair. You could always find Albert and Betty cruising with their 56 Mercury or 64 Comet at Pony Corral’s Sunday Night cruise nights. They loved getting together at car shows all over Manitoba, and having fun with friends on road trips. In 1994, Albert was one of the founding members of the Fabulous 50’s Ford Club of Manitoba. He was known to always help fellow members and friends with car-related issues, with a different vehicle always coming up the driveway.
A special thanks to Dr. Smal, The WFPS, Dr. Jattan, Dr. Singh and all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care.
A private family service was held at Doyle’s Funeral Home, Carman with interment in the Sperling Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Bluff Community Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, 1155 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 3G1.
