Obituary of Martin Elsinga
The death occurred peacefully at Queen Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 28, 2024 of Martin Elsinga.
Husband of Dimphy Elsinga. Father of Aaron and Curtis (Anita). Grandfather of Cash, Sutton, Bridget and Gabrielle. Brother of Margaret (Leslie) MacKay, Ann (Matthew) MacKay, Harry (Vicki), Evelyn (Joe) McCarthy, Juliana Elsinga (Jamie Clow), Elizabeth (Martin) Ross, Nanette (Maurice) Clark. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Wally Elsinga and brothers Peter Elsinga Jr. and John Elsinga.
Born in Minnertsga, The Netherlands and immigrated to Ontario, Canada at 9 months of age. He lived in Ontario until age 15 years and then moved with his family to Grahams Road, PEI in 1966. Martin obtained his welding certificate and worked as a welder for several years. He then returned to further studies at UPEI and graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from UNB in 1977. He returned to welding as an instructor in the vocational program at Montague Regional High School and taught many Grade 11 and 12 students over the years. He was an active volunteer for youth sports including soccer, hockey, and junior golf. His favourite sport was golf. He was a member with the Brudenell Golf Association for many years and played daily until two years ago when his health became an issue.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home from where visiting hours will be held Friday, May 3/24 from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at the St. John’s Presbyterian Church, New London at 10:30 am. Interment will take place later at the Lower Montague Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made online to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
