Obituary of Alan Martin
Martin, Alan left this world peacefully on May 14th at his home in Dover, on his own terms, listening to his loved Pink Floyd, and sipping on a Goslings, sailing to the other side.
Alan spent his work on the sea. It took him to many places, near and far, all over the world. He made many lifelong sea faring friends, whom he tried to keep in touch with after retiring.
His love for golf kept him “chasing that little white ball” as he called it, at the Belfast Highland Greens, where he was a life-long member, until this year. He wasn’t a real fan of the bigger courses and always said “no better walk, view, or people than in Belfast”. Very proud of his hole-in-one a few years ago!
His most recent joy was being Grandpa to his two beautiful granddaughters, Marin and Ella, whom he loved dearly, and always brought a smile to his face.
He leaves behind his wife, Kathy, children, Rebecca (Kent) Martin-Fraser and Lance (Lois Aragon) Martin; his most precious granddaughters, Marin and Ella Fraser; sister Mary Lou (Errol) MacLure, brothers Bruce (Lucy), Bob (Laurel, deceased) (Bern); brother-in-law Barney (Norma) Butler; sisters-in-law Carol and Alice and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Hurmon and Lucille (Burden) Martin, mother and father-in-law Harold and Agnes (McGuigan) Butler, sister Kaye Burck, brothers and sisters-in-law, John Burck, Ted, Bob, Lemuel, Dave Butler, Rose (Butler) Millar, Sandra (Butler) Peardon, Lorraine (Butler) Mahar, and by his niece Tracy Martin.
No visitation or funeral service at Alan’s request. Cremation entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home. Special thanks to Dr. Scott Campbell and the Montague Palliative Care Team, especially Mallory Peters. Also to some special friends – you know who you are.
Memorial donations may be made to the IWK and the Halifax Nova Scotia Down Syndrome Society.
Love can touch us once and last a lifetime. You are safe in my heart, as long as my heart goes on❤️.
