It is with heavy hearts, but also in appreciation for a life well lived, the family of Ronald David MacDonald announce his passing which occurred peacefully and with family by his side at the HCA Florida Largo Hospital, Florida, on Saturday, December 28th, 2024. Born on May 1, 1941, he was aged 83 years of Little Pond PEI.
Ronnie will be remembered as a loving spouse to Shirley (nee Chaisson) Campbell and as a supportive father to David; deceased (Darlene), Robbie (Betty), Nancy (Bill Loo), Kent (Catherine), Gary (Chrissy), Michael (Lori Ann), all of Little Pond and Mark (Janice) of Cornwall, PE. He will also be deeply missed by his stepchildren, Kelly, Colin, Grant, Sherri, Grace, Bradshaw, Carmel, John Paul, and their families. Grampy will be extremely missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ronnie is survived by his siblings Harold (Pat) of Kemptville, Ontario, Bill of Rollo Bay, Walter (Marlene), Claire (Terry), and his sister-in-law Carol MacDonald of Charlottetown and brother-in-law Kenny (Jocelyn) MacLean of Cardigan.
Ronnie is predeceased by his wife, Rose Marie, brother Joe MacDonald, sister and brother-in-law Pat and Lloyd MacDonald, and his sister-in-law Donna MacDonald.
Ronnie was always interested in farming and from a young age he worked alongside his father and siblings on the family farm in Little Pond. Ronnie took over the farm upon his father, Alec Ronnie’s retirement. He farmed for over 40 years and with his wife Rose Marie raised a family of 6 boys and 1 girl. He continued to farm with his two sons, Robbie, and Kent, until his own retirement. Ronnie enjoyed harness racing and became a breeder and owner of some very special horses, namely Grampy’s Winner and Grampy’s Accolade. Harness racing gave him much joy and happiness and the opportunity to travel.
Upon his retirement from the farm, Ronnie took up golf and spent his winters vacationing in Largo, Florida. He made many great friends at Ranchero Village with his wife Rose Marie and later after her passing with his current wife Shirley. He loved his time spent in Florida. Ronnie spent his summers back in Little Pond and was a member of the Brudenell River Golf Course where he continued to enjoy the friendships made on the golf course. Family was very important to Ronnie, and he always enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Completed funeral arrangements will be announced within the coming days. If so desired, donations in memory of Ronnie can be made to St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Fund.
