It is with great sadness, the family of Gerard “Gerry” Faubert announce his passing which occurred peacefully and surrounded by family at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre in Charlottetown, on Saturday December 21, 2024. Born in Sudbury (ON) on December 12, 1944, he just celebrated his 80th birthday.
Gerry will be forever loved by his wife Betty (nee Harris) of 58 years and remembered as a caring, attentive father (and prankster) to his 2 daughters, Suzanne (Chris Astles) and Lynne (Frankie Sweeney). Gerry was the happiest and proudest Pépère/Poppa to his grandchildren Sarah (Tyler), Samantha, Brittany (Terenzo), Emma (Dominick), Ben (Brianna), and Ellen; and Grand-Pépère to Kilian and Alora. He will also be missed by his best fur friend Lily.
He is survived by his sister Gisele (André), and sisters-in-law Jacqueline Faubert and Ida Faubert and brother-in-law Billy (Anne) Harris, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Estelle & Arthur Faubert; brothers Roma & Jean-Guy and sister Marielle & brother-in-law Roland; as well as parents-in-law Jim & Emma Harris, in-laws Harry & Mary Harris, Anna & Howard Holland, Kay & Joe Mullally, Adele Bastien and Shirley Bennett.
Gerry grew up in Larchwood Ontario and raised his family close by in the small community of Dowling. Although he loved Northern Ontario, he enjoyed his wonderful summers spent at East Point PEI. After a 30-year career, he retired from INCO and he and Betty made the move to PEI. In retirement he enjoyed working part-time for a few years at Canadian Tire and Walmart where he truly loved the social part of getting to talk and help everyone he met. Always a gentleman, he truly loved to talk to anyone & everyone.
His love for his family was always evident. He lived to support his children and particularly his grandchildren. He enjoyed doing home renovations and painting or as Suzanne called them doing ‘Gerry Jobs’. In recent years, he could also be found at the rink or the soccer field cheering from the sidelines.
His never ending I love you’s will never be forgotten. He had a strong faith, a tremendous sense of humor, and loved dinners & get togethers with family, friends and food…and maybe a rum and coke too! With this in mind, we will celebrate his life with a barbecue this summer that will include lots of love, laughs and good food & drinks!
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Randy MacKinnon and the Charlottetown Home Care staff. Also, special gratitude to the exceptional physicians and staff of Unit 3 who cared for Gerry during his long stay at the QEH (there are too many people to mention, but his family will be forever grateful). And finally, to the Palliative Care facility physicians and staff who went above and beyond in Gerry’s final days.
By Gerry’s personal request, there will be no public visitation. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, Fairfield on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 2:00pm. A celebration of life and interment will take place in July 2025, with details to be shared later. If so desired, donations in memory of Gerry can be made to the school breakfast program of École-La-Belle-Cloche or the Provincial Palliative Care Centre.
