The death occurred peacefully at the Colville Manor in Souris on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, of Anne Poole (nee Keays) with her loving family by her side. Born on the Souris Line Road on June 18, 1937, she was in her 88th year.
She is survived by her beloved husband Jiggs Poole and her children Kent (Wendy), Donna, & Paul. Anne was the happiest and proudest grandmother in the world to Devon (Sheena), Ashley (Owen), Hannah (Brandon), Thomas and Dylan and loving great grandmother to Brielle, Evelyn, Daxton, Gideon, Bennett (already in heaven waiting for her laughter and hugs), Beau, and Ada.
Anne balanced raising and loving her family with a successful vocation as a teacher. After a summer working as a housekeeper for then-Senator John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline in Hyannisport, MA, Anne embarked on a long and storied career as a teacher. She started in one-room schoolhouses and finished at Souris Consolidated, teaching generations of students with devotion and enthusiasm. Seeing the need for connection between young and old, she started the Annie’s Grannies program which brought primary school students to spend time with the residents at Colville Manor.
She had an attic full of bowling trophies, her carrot cake was a local legend, and she loved a good wash day. Anne never missed an opportunity to wash, line-dry, and iron a load of laundry. Anne’s love of travel saw her running the roads of Eastern Kings County, visiting family in Canada and the US, and enjoying many trips south with her fun-loving crew of travelling companions.
She will be missed by her baby sister Rosina Richard (Paul), along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Minnie and Lorne Keays, her sisters Mary, Dorothy, Henrietta, Kate, and Lorraine and her brothers Wendell, Allan, Lornie, Jim, Elmer, Byron, and Gerald
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Colville Manor and Souris Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness for Anne. Also, special gratitude for the Souris Home Care staff and friend and longtime caregiver Leona Savoie, all of whose loving care helped keep Mom in her home with Dad for so many years.
Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Anne can be made to the Souris Regional School Breakfast Program or the Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Colville Manor).
