January 13, 1934 – June 20, 2024
Lucille leaves to mourn her first born and always loved Dwayne Paquette (Cheryle), Darlene Collins (Ron), Carol Wolanski (Brent), Joseph Terracol (Veronique) and Christine Wolanski. Also grieving are granddaughters Laura Collins (Shane), Desirée Solberg (J.P.); great grandson William Girard and Dwayne’s extended family who lived so lovingly and quietly in her heart; plus all the neices and nephews that gave her so much joy.
Mom was predeceased by her brother Kit (Elvie), sisters Annette Meirs and Terry Kaplanchuck and brother Robert Paquette.
Our mom only later in her life was able to celebrate and embrace her Métis-Cree culture. Thank you Laura and Desi for all the family tree research.
Mom was the proud daughter of George and Exilia (nee Lablond) Paquette; he from Jackfish Lake, SK and she from Chicoutimi, PQ. They settled in The Pas, MB and raised their five children surrounded by a large extended family and so much love.
In 1955 Mom was thrilled to follow her brother Kit to Victoria, BC. This is where she met and married Gordon Wolanski (he didn’t stay) and later marrying Al Wood who left her widowed in 1997. Luckily (for all of us) Mom met up with “her” Ray Pilote and got to live a good and loving life until his passing.
Some of Mom’s last years were in her Salt Spring Island home, but spending more and more time in her daughter’s Victoria home as her health care needs grew. Mom was happy with her life … until she wasn’t. Alzheimer’s was diagnosed and her last 2 1/2 months were in assisted living. She hated it! But tried to be brave knowing she needed this higher level of care.
To those at the Heights at Mount View that showed our mom kindness, compassion, empathy and patience, her family thanks you for that little bit extra that made it almost bearable.
Finally we want to share that Mom did not want to leave the party (she never did!) She wanted to carry on with her kids; she wanted to keep sharing those amazing, rip-roaring pee-in-your-pants belly laughs, her beer and tomato juice and rum and cokes, the little adventures that made her so happy, meals out, nights at the casino, family dinners and all those special Christmas gatherings. These were her joys.
Mom fought so hard to keep her eyes open, but finally sleep took hold and she drifted away.
Mom, to each of us you were the best anchor, life saver and very best friend. We love you and we miss you so much.
