His life as a salesman took him to Edmonton, Calgary, Castro Alberta, and Dawson Creek BC to sell as well as train others with his unique and successful approach. With that, he’d had enough of cold weather and headed west with his wife and his 2, 5, 7, 8 & 9- year-olds. While they holidayed on Vancouver Island, he discovered the original Mennonite Church in Black Creek BC. He, Carol, his boys, his daughter, and a few friends converted the 1937 building, over many years, into a charming unique home for his family. For 20 years he made many friends and enjoyed life in that lovely little community. While living in the area, he fell in love with fishing for SteelHead in the Black Creek. So he purchased a boat and salmon became the name of the game.
His ever-fertile mind also led him to partner with 2 of his skilled and talented buddies inventing the “Hammer” Curling Broom. After much of Dale’s masterful promotion across the country, the
Hammer helped bring fame to Canadians. The Hammer was in the hands of Canada’s Schmirler the Curler as Sandra and her team brought home Olympic gold in 1998. Howard, Gushue, and Harris along with their crews sported the ‘Hammer’ Broom as their teams won World Curling Championships.
He concluded his working years at the Campbell River Dry Cleaners which he had purchased earlier.
Upon retirement Dale and Carol moved to Courtenay, enjoying time together, along with their growing family. Of which Dale was very proud.
His sporting love and spare time turned more to Curling and Golfing. Where he enjoyed many hours of participating with his wife and friends, also contributing his talents to the success of those active communities.
Dale loved a good laugh, a joke, and music. He was never happier than when friends would all join around the piano and he would be on his autoharp…the music and song would last for hours! He often encouraged the grandchildren to enjoy and participate in his love for tunes and melodies, while playing his keyboard for them.
In 2018 with the years creeping up, Dale and his bride of 62 years made the happy decision to head south on the island and purchase a home in Rivers Edge along the Sooke River. He spent his final years enjoying everyday life close to his three youngest sons.
