Obituary
Ilija Jurkic, a beloved husband and cherished member of his community, peacefully passed away on October 3, 2023, at the age of 71, at the Kelowna Hospice House. He was born and raised in the small village of Stitar, Croatia, on February 10, 1952, and immigrated to Canada in 1970 in pursuit of a new life filled with opportunity and adventure.
Ilija met the love of his life, Rose, in Kitchener, Ontario, and in 1975 they embarked on a journey together as husband and wife. Their love story is a testament to enduring commitment and unwavering support.
Ilija is survived by his loving wife, Rose; children, Andrija (Tammy), and Mato (Kim); grandchildren: Alyssa, Selena, Ridge, and Atlas; mother-in-law, Stevka Jurisic; brothers-in-law, Marko Jurisic, and Dennis Poloniato; sister-in-law, Snezana Poloniato; niece, Jamie; nephews: Dennis, Correy, Christopher, and Nicholas. He is predeceased by his mother, Mara Bikic; and father-in-law, Josip Jurisic.
A celebration of Ilija’s life will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Home, located at 1910 Windsor Rd, Kelowna, BC V1Y 4R5, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10 am, followed by a reception where friends and family can gather to share memories and support one another through this difficult time.
In memory of Ilija, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the food bank of your choice. His compassionate spirit and desire to help others will live on through these acts of kindness.
Ilija Jurkic will be remembered for his warm heart, his dedication to his family, and his generosity towards others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
