Florence was a loving mother to Rhonda, Roger, Melissa, and David. She loved her grandchildren Kyle, Cody, Ann, and Brianna, and great grandchildren Madyson, Logan, Jordan, Rylie, and Abbey, and her cat Tuca.
She was born in Abee, Alberta to a large family of immigrant farmers from Europe. She was raised by a wonderful mother and father that taught their children to be survivors – a requirement in the harsh environment of the North.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Yellowknife, NWT with her husband to start a new life and family. She was completely capable of surviving up north, and flourished, helping people that were having a harder time. She and her growing family lived in several mining communities (Kimberly, B.C., Faro, YT) before settling permanently in Logan Lake B.C. in 1972.
She had a long career managing the Logan Lake Hotel, restaurant, and pub, working dawn to dusk making sure everyone was taken care of. She never complained. She finished her career teaching cooking and cooking for the inmates in the local youth camp and was always touched by the kind letters she received from them.
Florence was an emphatic individual with many passions and hobbies and will be most remembered for her willingness to help and share with anyone. She was an amazing gardener, growing and canning all manner of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and seeds which she would share with everyone – no one ever went hungry.
She was passionate about cooking with and for her family and friends. When Florence was in the kitchen, the house always smelled great, and there was always something delicious coming. Again, no one ever went hungry.
Florence was also an accomplished seamstress. Not only did she keep her family clothed, but she also donated hundreds of her hand-made baby blankets and hats to new babies far and wide, many of whom she would never meet.
Florence was a lifelong sports fan. Whether it was driving her son to football and hockey games, playing baseball or curling, attending NHL and MLB games, or cheering for her teams on TV, she was all in.
During her later years she was able to travel the world where she would cruise the Mediterranean and study cooking in Italy. Florence passed peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2024, at her home in Logan Lake, B.C. She was ninety years old. A celebration of her life will be held on May 25, 2024. Details to follow.
