Angie Wangler Obituary
It is with broken hearts and devastation that we mourn the passing of Angie Linda Flavel Wangler who left our world unexpectedly on October 23, 2024, at the age of 42.
Eager to get her life started, Angie was born about noon at Red Deer Hospital and went home the same afternoon with her Mom and Dad, Gwen and Bob Wangler (due to a nurses’ strike). Two years later she welcomed the birth of her brother Bobby Wangler. She took her schooling in Salmon Arm, Regina, White City / Balgonie and graduated back in Salmon Arm, where her father lived.
Angie was a ‘people’ person. She enjoyed socializing and meeting all people. She had no problem conversing with anyone and always left a memorable impression. Angie’s free spirit was always up for adventure. She consistently made the most out of life that she could. She would celebrate any special day or event, turning it into a time of fun and joy with family and friends. Angie was never fearful of speaking her mind and would stand up to anyone, at the same time she had a gentle and kind soul. She was compassionate, empathetic and generous. Using her own experiences of trauma, she helped others through their struggles. She continually did research which helped her mother with any health problems. Angie was intelligent in so many ways.
She needed the larger city for stimulation of her insatiable appetite for the arts. Angie’s pursuit of the arts led her to travel and live in most of the largest cities across Canada, from coast to coast, from Victoria to Montreal. In the last few years, we were blessed to have Angie live close to family in the Sicamous and Salmon Arm area, which she loved, and which was to be her home base. This past September Angie had moved to Vancouver where she could expand upon her writing and gift of Somatic Breathwork.
Angie especially LOVED: water (along with swimming and cold-winter dips), the moon (even as a toddler), nature, walking, dogs and cats, whales and dolphins, writing, reading (Douglas Coupland, her favorite author), morning rituals (of meditating, breathwork, exercise and coffee), art, film, live plays and theatre (Phantom, her fav), animals and birds (while in parks or nature, any nearby would find their way to Angie), coffee shops, book stores, department stores, fashion, (simple, not flashy), galleries and art installations, night lights – all lit up, Christmas at home with family, cooking for others, travel (N.Y.C., her fav), and time with Grandma and Grandpa at the farm.
Angie had many skills and talents. She was a multidisciplinary and multi-media artist:
Dance – At age 7, upon first viewing Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk video, Angie perfectly ‘moonwalked’ across the Livingroom. She enjoyed ballet, tap dance and jazz in younger years. In High School she studied improv and dancing at the Regina Conservatory of Music, where a dancing partner accidentally dropped her, injuring her, and ending any possible dancing career.
Music – By age 6, Angie could play the piano by ear. She later played the clarinet and saxophone in school. Angie befriended different musicians along her path, some of whom are eternal friends, and she produced music videos for some of the Bands.
Theatre, Television/Film – In High School, Angie performed in many plays, receiving Provincial Runner-Up Best Actress by Sask. Drama Assoc. in ‘Moon People.’ She worked at Globe Theatre in Regina as the Dresser. Angie performed in ‘The Vagina Monologues’ in Calgary. She studied at Co. of Rouges New York Style Actors Studio, including the famous Meisner Technique. As an actor, Angie did background and smaller speaking roles in many television shows and many films, notably HBO’s “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” (Aiden Quinn and Adam Beach) and “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck). She also worked as a Production Assistant in office and on set.
Somatic Breathwork – After participating in one session of Breathwork wherein she had amazing results, Angie studied and became certified as a Somatic Breathwork practitioner. She discovered she had a special gift using the same, virtually and in-person, to help hundreds of people through their trauma’s. Angie had recently offered to donate to the Canadian Horse Defence Fund the proceeds through her Breathwork at their event.
Writing – Angie’s found her greatest passion in writing and became a ‘Canadian Author, Playwright and Screenwriter.’ Angie wrote many plays starting at a young age, notably “Blue” (Playwright & Principal Actor) – Official Selection by Golden Door Intl. Film Festival and others. She created “Currently Fletcher’d,” an online weekly publication of essays, short stories and feature articles about life. She then posted her amazing e-book “Split Face Liar.” Angie wrote novellas/short stories, such as “The Beach House” and “Rabbit, A New Kind of Love Story,” along with a collection of poetry and prose “The Singing Storm” (which she dedicated to her mother) – all self-published on Amazon. Angie had been working on various screenplays with Sundance Institute and loved chatting with founder Robert Redford.
As you can imagine, Angie had a bottomless suitcase of extraordinary life experiences to draw from and retell in story and screenplay. She was taken too soon.
Angie is survived by her mother Gwen Flavel and her brother Bobby Wangler (fiancée Destiny), both of Sicamous, her half-siblings Darrell Wangler (Amy) and Brenda Goodkey (Greg), both of Salmon Arm, and Shelly Aris of Innisfail, AB, her Aunt Linda Flavel of Sicamous, her Uncle Klint Flavel (Linda Young) of Regina, Uncle Del of Estevan, SK, and her Aunt Peg Mathieson (Don),Uncle John Bourk (Gladys) of Salmon Arm, her Aunts Phyllis Wangler, Margret Baseraba, Maudie Luft (Dennis), and Donna Pitchko, her dearest cousins Zoe Wangler (Marcus) of London, England, and her dearest friend Conrad Matejczuk of Edmonton, AB.
Angie is predeceased by her father Bob Wangler, her grandparents Millie and Humphrey Flavel and Lula (Myer) Bourk (& Ranel Bourk) and Chris Wangler, her stepfather Dennis Zohner, her bother-in-law Kim Aris, her Aunts MaryLou Mayers and Mabel, her Uncles Ken, Larry, and Christian Wangler, and her dearest cousin Deb Flavel.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Angie’s Life to be held on Nov. 10th at 6 pm in Sicamous, BC, at The Legion (upstairs), 322 Main St., with cheese/meat trays and a cash bar. In addition, there will also be an Interment and graveside Memorial Service in July 2025 at Marieton Anglican Church Cemetery, near Glen Harbor, Sask. A Facebook Event Page will include details and any updates.
Angie’s bright light will be even stronger as she watches over us.
