Adele “Dell” Ireson Obituary
It is with saddened hearts, that we are announcing that our mother, Dell Ireson passed away on September 16, 2024. She was born February 10, 1930 in the small community of Waybrook, Alberta.
Being the middle child in a family of 8 children, she was busy doing farm chores when growing up and managed to complete Grade 8 education with the Grey Nuns. Mom then worked at Misericordia Community Hospital, Edmonton, AB in between working as a waitress at Slave Lake, AB. It was while working as a waitress that she met Bill Ireson, who became her future husband.
As Bill had been in World War II, he was 28 years of age and wanted a stable life with his own family. It wasn’t long after mom caught his eye that they married and within three years they had three children, a daughter; Denys (Barney) Bardarson, two sons; Cy Ireson and Kenneth (Joanne) Ireson. Then a little bundle of joy, Brenda Leigh (a cousin) joined our family for two years and is a sister to us all. Four years later another bundle of joy arrived, our baby sister Kathy Ireson, to complete the family.
In 1965 the family made their final move to Golden, BC and happily settled in to watch their family grow further. They had eight grandchildren; Michelle (Dan) Knight, Laura (Kevin) Bennetts, William (Karla) Bardarson, Devin (Tuyen) Ireson, Kamira (Robert) Tyerman, Scott (Gioia) Ireson, Craig (Cecilia) Peters, Fiona (Luis) Johnston, Jonathan Ireson, Daniel Ireson, Benjamin Wong, Jennifer (Lee) Grant, Eward (Bridget) Won, Danielle (Lyndon Minnabarriet) Greenstreet, Nicole (Sam Charlebois) Greenstreet and Justin Winters. Next the great grandchildren to the sum of 13 … Bradley Knight, Myles Knight, Leif Knight; Lucas Knight; Kellan Ireson; Eric Ireson; Malia Grant; Sage Tyerman; Hayden Grant; Ulani Dodding, William Bardarson, Anastasia Bardarson and Nova Minnabarriet.
Many may remember Mom and Dad from when they operated their business “Bill and Dell’s Grocery” from 1973 to 1983 and again in 1988 to 1990. Children loved to visit their store because the first
aisle had a large candy display right at a youngster’s level.
Mom’s love of children was always paramount in her life, as she babysat 174. Two of the children, Nancy and Wanda became part of their family. In addition, starting at the ripe old age of 70 Mom and Dad, for years, invited Japanese exchange students into their home for which Mom received a “Mother Hen Award” from the school district.
In the last few months, we are thankful for the god send of Leo the Lion (her grand-cat) that kept company with Mom, by sitting and cuddling with her, and taking the occasional ride on Mom’s walker. Comfort of a family pet was so soothing for Mom.
A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring of next year. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the “Mouth & Foot Painting Artists” (MFPAcanada.com)
We wish to thank family, friends and community for the love you’ve shown for our mother. She will be truly missed, and we will carry Mom’s love with us forever.
