Judy Balfour Obituary
Judy Balfour of Lacombe passed away on the morning of August 4, 2024, at the age of 73 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Anthony Balfour; her daughter Angela Burdick (Brent) of Laural, Maryland and granddaughters Abigayle and Emily; her son André Balfour of Edmonton; her brother Vernon Teichroeb (Judy) of Lacombe. Judy was predeceased by her parents Marie and Bernhard Teichroeb.
Judy grew up on a farm in Manitoba. She accepted the Seventh-day Adventist faith in her 20s. She had an adventurous spirit and decided to pursue a nursing degree at Sydney Adventist Hospital “The San” in Australia. She volunteered as a nurse in Zambia, and then returned to Tasmania, Australia to complete training in midwifery. She fell in love with Africa, and her heart remained there for her whole life. She met her future husband at Avondale through mutual friends. After Judy and Tony were married, they went to Zambia to serve at Uka Hospital. They remained there until Judy became pregnant and due to her difficult pregnancy had to return to Australia. Angela was born at “The San” in Australia, and subsequently Andre as well. After some time, they decided to try living in New Zealand, and unable to do so, they journeyed to Lacombe, Canada to be with Judy’s parents. Judy and Tony’s desire to return to the mission field remained strong, and they decided to serve in Mekelle, Ethiopia to run a clinic. After 2 years of service, they returned to Canada. They remained in Lacombe for the remainder of Judy’s life. Both Judy and Tony were always looking for opportunities to serve and went on mission trips to India, Haiti and Namibia. Judy was always collecting medicines and teaching tools for health ministry. Recently Judy and Tony started a children’s club in Innisfail to minister to the First Nations’ community. Judy has touched many lives with her generosity and desire to help those in need.
A Graveside Burial Service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe, Alberta
at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024
