It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Moorhouse at his home in Benalto, Alberta, on June 6, 2024, at the age of 78.
John was born on February 2, 1946, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Jack and Ruby Moorhouse, and was raised with his 3 sisters, Kay, his twin sister Judy, and Linda, at the “homestead” in Breton, Alberta.
John had many successful careers which included lumber yards, drilling rigs, oilfield maintenance, and upstream operations until he started his own consulting company which he ran until his retirement in 2014.
In 1969, John married Elaine Mills of Camrose, Alberta, and remained happily married until his passing. They were blessed with 3 children; Debbie in 1973, Darcy in 1976, and Jodie in 1979. They moved to Benalto, Alberta in 1980 and have remained there as they fell in love with the community.
John was an active member in his community. He was president of the Benalto Booster Club for several years. He spent many hours volunteering his time on projects that helped bring the community together.
John enjoyed going on the occasional fishing trip, camping, and vacationing with family and friends. Camping trips included traveling across Western Canada and into the States with a couple of trips taking them as far as the Redwoods in Northern California and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. He and Elaine also went on many vacations with friends to tropical locations, Antigua being their favourite destination.
John is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Debra (Scott) MacDonald, Darcy (Shannon) Moorhouse, Jodie (Allen) Turner, Garreth (Christiane) Mueller who joined the family in 1987; grandchildren Morgan, Julia, James, Connor, Kalli, and Bella; mother-in-law Bertha Mills; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Ruby; his sisters, Kay Roos, Judy MacKilligan, and Linda Mueller; 3 brothers-in-law, Jim Roos, Art MacKilligan, and Leonard Hoynick; and his father-in-law, Charlie Mills.
John enjoyed a good get-together with family and friends so please join us to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Benalto Hall.
