Obituary of Phillip Joseph Albert Gustavsen
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Phillip “Phil” Joseph Albert Gustavsen on October 26, 2023, at the age of 81 years.
Phil grew up in the Standard area where he graduated from Standard school. This is where he met his wife, Sharen, and they married on February 20, 1965.
Phil’s career in the oilfield took him and Sherry to Calgary, Edson, and Drumheller/Dalum areas where they expanded their family with three children: Darren, Dereck, and Cari. Phil then took over the family farm in Chancellor until he retired in 1993. After another brief stint in the oilfield, he and Sherry moved to Strathmore in 2008.
Phil kept himself busy by cutting grass at Oxbow Golf Course and, most recently, as a bingo caller at the Strathmore Legion and at Ranch Estates. Phil was an avid golfer and curler, but his real love was playing cribbage. He recently fulfilled his life dream of winning the Legion Dominion Cribbage Championship in April 2022.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sharen, of 58 years; three children Darren (Tracie), Dereck (Cori), and Cari; eight grandchildren, Clay (Liz), Colby, Kian, Brianne, Ryan, Joel, Jordyn (Josh), and Tyler; sister-in-law Donna; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses that cared for Phil during his time at South Health Campus in Calgary.
Phil’s family would like everyone to join them for a Celebration of Phil’s Life on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Strathmore Legion Hall at 1:00 p.m
