Arnold Albert Deutsch Obituary
On September 10, 2024, Arnold “Arnie” Albert Deutsch of Strathmore, AB passed away peacefully at the age of 82.
Arnie was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan to Steven and Emma. His family eventually moved to Calgary, Alberta where he completed studies at Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD)/SAIT to become a lithographer. He worked at numerous printing shops and even opened his own company, A.H.R. Productions Ltd., with his two best friends – Harvey and Ron. He spent a few years as an instructor at ACAD/SAIT and dabbled in being a casino card dealer. In his later days, he worked as a Commissionaire at the RCMP detachment in Strathmore. After that, he enjoyed the life of retirement and moved into Wheatland Lodge in Strathmore.
Arnie had several hobbies which included darts and playing pool, cards and Rummoli, crosswords and word-searches. He was part of a bowling league with his wife, Gail and played for the AutoCats ball team. While raising his children, he was heavily involved in the sports community. He umpired many softball games and tournaments, volunteered with hockey teams, and was a Sports Director at the Bowness Sportsplex.
Arnie tried his hand at acting, earning several small parts and was even part of a United Way print ad. He was a member of the Airdrie Little Theatre groups involved in stage performances, plays, and co-directing. He was in a travel commercial for Brinner Travel and was an extra in the movie “Dead Bang” featuring Don Johnson, Tim Reed, and William Forsyth.
Arnie is survived by his children, Kim (Robert) Johnson and Kevin Deutsch; grandchildren, Alana Johnson, Keegan (Taylor) Johnson, and Grayson Deutsch; and sister, Ellie (Larry) Weber. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by wife, Gail; parents Steve and Emma; brother, Ken; and sister-in-law, Dar.
Arnie will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his never-ending stories, witty comments, constant thumbs up, sticking out his tongue, and a love of solitaire, mahjong, and puzzles.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Wheatland Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Memorial Fund at Wheatland Lodge ( www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/wheatland-lodge/) or to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Wheatland Lodge and Dr. Sader for all their love and care over the years. A big thank you also goes to Wheatland Funeral Home for stepping in and providing their services.
