It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Jeremy Cristin Bowers on July 1st 2024 at the age of 55. He passed away in his sleep after a long illness. He died peacefully at his home at Abbey Road Housing Co-op.
Jeremy was born to Deborah Ann Bowers on February 7th, 1969, the year of the Moon Walk, the Woodstock Music Festival and the Beatles recording of Abbey Road.
Jeremy was a brilliant student. He graduated from Bonnie Doon High School in 1985 with honours and went on to study journalism at Grant MacEwan Community College. It was while he was studying at college that he met his future wife, Deb. They married in 1990.
After graduating from the journalism program Jeremy worked for a while for the Stony Plain Reporter and then moved with Deb to the Kootenay’s to take a job with the Nelson Daily News.
It was in Nelson that he had his first, bad attack of Multiple Sclerosis. It had a devastating effect on Jeremy physically, emotionally and mentally. He struggled with depression, anxiety and OCD for the rest of his life. He then moved back to Alberta to be closer to family. Unfortunately, Jeremy and Deb’s marriage did not withstand the turmoil of his diagnosis and treatment. They separated in 1995.
It was in Edmonton that Jeremy met his long-time friend and companion Anna Despins who supported Jeremy over the years and who was beside him when he died.
Jeremy loved music and movies and collected hundreds of CD’s and DVD’s. He was known for his wit and his humour. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Jeremy was predeceased by his grandmother (Lorraine Audrey Bowers), his uncle (Garry Aurthur Alexander Bowers), his sister (Connor Gwendolyn Harvey). He is survived by his companion (Anna Despins) his mother (Deborah Ann Bowers) his step father (Ross William Harvey) his sister (Carice Bowers), his brother (Isaac Harvey) his uncles (Bryan Bowers, Jeff Richstone and Karl Koerber), and his aunts (Ann and Dona Harvey)
