Lorry’s Obituary
Lorraine Braaten, of Manning, Alberta, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024 surrounded by family.
Lorry was born on April 16, 1929 to Carl and Inga Braaten in Denbigh, North Dakota.
When Lorry was in her early 20s she moved to Grande Prairie and from there proceeded to live and work at various office jobs in Edmonton, Kelowna, and Vancouver. There were also times when she would travel North and cook for work camps. When Lorry was living in Edmonton she met Roger Coutu. He was a treasured companion who shared her life, her travel adventures, and her joy in the every day things until his passing.
Upon retiring Lorry returned to Manning to be closer to family. She joyfully moved into the Senior’s apartment just down the hall from her twin sister Lou; this was a treasured time before Lou passed away.
Lorry was loved by everyone who knew her. She had a genuine interest and curiosity about people, nature and everything that was going on around her. She lived her faith daily by loving people, being kind to everyone, helping every person she could, being a pillar of strength to those who needed it and valuing children and nature with all her heart.
Family was everything to Lorry. She is predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings. She leaves a large hole in our remaining family who will strive to honor her legacy by paying forward Lorry’s kindness, love and caring that she shared with each of us.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Manning Family Worship Centre at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with a lunch to follow at the Manning Legion Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manning & District Palliative Care Society or a charity of ones choice.
