Delmer’s Obituary
Delmer was born on July 17, 1930 in Peace River,, Alberta to Arley and Madeline who were born in the United States. Arley and Madeline established and lived on the family homestead in Griffin Creek, Alberta. Delmer played a vital role in the family farm, which later became his family home.
He met his loving wife, Dorothy Wearden, and they were married on October 7, 1955, continuing to farm the homestead together. Their family grew with the arrival of Linda, followed exactly one year later(haha!) by Coleen. then their first son Arley, and another son, Alan. Four years later Wendy and a year after that was Little Joe (Kenneth). Finally, a few years later, Bonnie.
Delmer was skilled at keeping the equipment running as he was known for his tinkering. Dorothy and Delmer raised livestock, planted enormous gardens and often more than one – enough to feed the countryside.
Delmer lost Dorothy after her battle with cancer in 2000. He was lost without her, but carried on for his family. He has a whole herd of grandkids and great-grandkids that kept him going.
In his later years, when he was forcibly retired and no longer in the corrals, he enjoyed supervising Alan and Joe working with cattle. Sipping his coffee – never in a travel mug, always a glass cup, a pile of banana peels in his wake. He always had a smile on his face when he saw his little grandkids coming. He enjoyed family barbecues, a nice cold Kokanee, and chuckling at everybody.
He will be greatly missed by all!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
