Bill’s Obituary
Edward William (Bill) van Tamelen, life-long resident of Peace River (AB) passed away on February 7, 2024 in Peace River, at 82 years of age.
Bill was born in Peace River to Edward and Elizabeth van Tamelen on November 6, 1941; the youngest of 4 children.
He attended NAIT and became an autobody mechanic. After working at Riverdrive Motors, he then opened his own shop. In the 1980s, Bill purchased Hilltop Auto Wreckers and spent many months moving the vehicles, from their original location at the top of the east hill to the current site.
In 1968, he’s married Ida Rode. They had one daughter.
Having a keen interest in all things automotive, farming, local history – Bill truly believed that the Peace Country was the greatest place on Earth. He enjoyed a good conversation, was a big jokster and loved talking on the phone,
He is predeceased by his parents Edwards and Elizabeth van Tamelen; wife Ida van Tamelen; brother Henry (Hank); sister Margaret.
Bill is survived by his daughter Gaylene (Mike) Taylor; grandchildren Matthew & Avery Taylor; brother Jon (Sara) van Tamelen; numerous nephews, nieces, friends and chosen “family”.
Bill and Ida’s cremated remains will rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Peace River.
