Audrey C Patterson Obituary
Audrey Patterson—loving wife, mother, Nana, G-Nana, and Other Nana—died on Saturday, August 31, 2024 with her daughters by her side. She was 92.
Audrey was born on April 9, 1932 in Calgary, Alberta to George and Kate Spear. She grew up in Calgary before moving to Little New York, near Longview. It was there, in grade nine, that she met her “best friend” and husband-to-be, Tony Patterson. Tony and Audrey, both only children, formed an exceptional bond that lasted for 70 years. They raised three daughters: Catherine (Ken) Roberts, Christine (Tip) Johnson, and Kelly (Don) Palmer.
A very independent woman, Audrey was employed for most of her life, as well as being involved in the community and Anglican Church. She began her career with Calmont Oil and also worked at Royal Bank, Gulf Oil, and Western Decalta before retiring from Pembina Pipeline. Her work helped her and Tony purchase their acreage west of Turner Valley, next to the Sheep River, in 1971. They lived there for 43 years, sharing the spectacular mountain view with many friends and family. When it was time to leave the upkeep of their beloved acreage behind, Tony and Audrey moved to Black Diamond and then Okotoks.
After retirement, Audrey kept busing volunteering and, her favorite pastime, shopping for her girls and grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by the love of her life, Tony, who passed away July 14, 2023; her father George and mother Kate; numerous close friends; and her son-in-law, Don. She is survived by her daughters Cathy, Christine, and Kelly; sons-in-law Tip and Ken; ex son-in-law Rob Petrone; and, her proudest accomplishment, seven grandchildren—Mark (Stacey) Satre, Clint (Kris) Satre, Jason (Gill) Petrone, Candice Petrone, Travis Johnson, Breanna Johnson (Clayton Dahl), Noel (Daylene) Johnson—and 15 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
The family would like to express our profound gratitude to the staff at the Heartland for their excellent care. They were absolutely wonderful to Audrey, and she truly loved them. Thank you as well to Dr. Brian Siray, who was Audrey’s doctor for over 30 years, and Dr. O and staff, who treated Audrey in the end. We are so grateful for your compassion and support. Most especially, to our Angel, nurse Rhonda, who became part of our family—words cannot express our love and appreciation for your care and companionship.
As per Audrey’s wishes, no funeral will be held.
