Obituary for
Cornelis (Kees, Casey) Glas
Casey Glas, 84, of Andrew, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Lamont Hospital.
Casey was born on October 3, 1939 in the Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada in 1962. After briefly living in Manitoba, he moved to Alberta in search of greener pastures. He worked a variety of oilfield and welding jobs and eventually began working on a farm. After a couple of years, he convinced the farmer to rent him a barn and he began to raise and sell pigs.
In 1977 Casey purchased a water well drilling rig and began his own business. His first employee was his nephew Perry Haakman, who worked with him for two years. They developed a bond and stayed in touch for the remainder of Casey’s life.
While business was good, Casey still had a desire to be a farmer, and he began to buy quarter sections of land near Andrew. He relocated there in 1990 and for the following 30 years he lived his life as a farmer and entrepreneur.
A lifelong bachelor, he lived his life his way to the end. Rest in peace, Casey.
Casey was predeceased by his siblings, Maria of Winnipeg, Nellie, Piet and Jack of the Netherlands. He is survived by his sister, Atie of the Netherlands, brother-in-law, Ben Haakman of Winnipeg; nephews, Perry, John and Mark Haakman; and niece, Cora Campbell with their families in Winnipeg.
Casey’s family would like to thank his friends and neighbours, in particular Casey Bosch and Margo Tollefson and his doctor, Claudiu Iordache.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and inurnment will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Andrew.
Memorial donations may be made in honour of Casey to a charity of your choice.
