Diane Jegou Obituary
Diane Jegou, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died on January 12, 2024, just shy of her 63rd birthday, from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
Diane was raised on a dairy farm in Innisfail Alberta, the youngest child of 4, by her parents, Bert and Mary Verbunt. There she met her husband Rick, a neighbour who lived 700 fence posts away from her house (lyrics from “their song” Meet in the Middle by Diamond Rio) It was Diane’s blue eyes and Rick’s spiffy red car that drew them to each other. They became high school sweethearts and loved each other for over 44 years.
Throughout the course of her life, Diane worked mostly in customer service, first at the Sears Catalogue Store, the Alberta Treasury Branch, TransAlta and lastly, for 20 years at Lacombe County, before she was forced to stop working as a result of her disease. Outside of work, Diane loved the outdoors and family holidays were often spent camping, canoeing, fishing and ice fishing, though the latter she only tolerated. Diane’s greatest passion was her family. She would give and do anything for her two children, grandchildren and grand-puppies. As her disease progressed, it was the thought of leaving her family behind that was her greatest source of sadness. It was for this reason that Diane’s bucket list didn’t consist of anything elaborate or grand, but rather to revel in the comfort of those she loved most. Diane enjoyed many hobbies including playing and later coaching girls fastball, as well as being an avid curler, golfer and poker player. While she enjoyed the “sporting” aspect of these activities, it was really the socializing that brought her the most happiness.Throughout Diane’s life, she constructed strong pillars of friendship that supported her in sickness and health and helped carry her and her family throughout the most difficult phases of her illness. Diane was beautiful inside and out. She was kind, compassionate, generous, and always put others first. Diane was FUN, always brought laughter to those around her and was the BEST daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Diane is survived by her loving husband, Rick; her daughter, Riley, husband Quentin and their children, Harper and Daphne, her son Jarod and his wife, Brenda and their son, Benton, her mother, Mary Verbunt, as well as her siblings, Grover (Lorette), Tony (Kathy), Jane (Dwayne) along with nieces, nephews and numerous extended family and beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Wyatt and her father, Bert Verbunt.
