Terri was born to Justine (Minde) and Joseph Smith Little Child on September 19, 1950 at Maskwacis, Alberta. She attended Ermineskin Indian Residential school at Maskwacis, Alberta and completed high school at St. Francis Xavier School in Edmonton. After attending Red Deer College, she worked a brief time for the Ermineskin Band Council before she returned to school at Olds College. The fall semester had barely began, when Howard Beebe Jr. swept her off her feet and moved her to the Blood Reserve. Their first home was the ‘white house’ in the Standoff Townsite. That house became Grand Central Station for all families to gather; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins, all the while taking in new children. Children from the north, children from the south, and children from across the border. Every holiday, long weekend and summer, their family home was buzzing with children as the doors were always open and welcoming. Wherever Terri and Howard settled, they made new friends and reconnected with family. Terri always held friends and family in high regard, and closest to them were their sidekicks; brother Danny and sister Regena as well as longtime friends, Joe Bird Rattler, Eugene Creighton, Jerome and Beatrice Morin, Marvin and Lillian Fox, Gilbert and Velma Eagle Bear, Heber and Florence Pilling, Hugh and Jean Tallow, Thelma Sosa, and Valerie (Becker Tootoosis) Bull. Together they built many memories while celebrating Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter Sundays, family barbeques and hand games. There was also so many enjoyable days spent boating at St. Mary Dam and golfing at the beautiful Waterton golf course.
While Terri and Howard lived in Fort Macleod the first time, she worked at G.R. Davis School. Her interests changed and she began working with the Ermineskin Band once again while Howard worked for Probation and CMHC. After Howard’s passing, Terri seemed to work harder than ever to keep the family together hosting gatherings for dinners, feasts, prayers and taking care of others both at Maskwacis as well as in Standoff, Piikani and Tsuu’tina.
Terri’s spiritual life was important to her. She looked to brother Willie for strength in prayer and often spoke of his work with the TRC which she fully supported. She ensured she made it to Maskwacis when the Pope came. She showed her family how to love, and how to have prayer in their hearts at all times – not just Sundays! She always wanted to be the last to express her love. After anyone said ‘I love you’, she would say ‘I LOVE YOU MORE’, or ‘I LOVE YOU MOSTEST’, or I LOVE YOU MORE-ER, (if that’s a word)! She loved us more than anything and we give thanks for that.
A very special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Fort Macleod Home Care Comfort wing. She loved you all so much because you always treated her with respect, kindness and went above and beyond for her. Terrie was loved and cared for by many, as she loved and cared for many in return. Please accept our apologies if we missed anyone and know that she sincerely valued us all. Terri will be so very deeply missed. ‘Love you mostest’ Terri!
