Obituary For Milly Wrzosek
July 18, 1934 – December 11, 2023
Age 89
In the early hours of December 11, 2023, Mom left us to join Dad for eternity. Her earthly ailments no longer hold her back. Mom loved spending time canning, baking, making perogies, cabbage rolls and sauerkraut, especially if it was with her children or friends. She was sharp as a tack at cards, especially Smear or Canasta, right up until she left us. Mom babysat many of her grandkids, nieces, and nephews when they were younger, and they loved her dearly. When Dad was still here, many a day was spent camping as well as blueberry and mushroom picking. In 1986 they purchased a lot and built a cabin that she loved, at the Narrows on Sturgeon Lake.
Milly was born Emilia Frey in Macklin, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Otillia Frey on July 18, 1934. In 1935 they moved to the Peace Country near Brownvale, Alberta. In 1954, Milly followed her sister Ann to Manning where they both eventually got a job at Starlite Café that was owned by Joe and Helen Buchinski. Milly met John, (Helen’s brother) while working at the café. It was a short romance as they were married on Wednesday, October 20, 1954. Four sons were born in Manning: Blaine, Gary, Danny, and Brian. John’s father passed away in 1964 and John, Milly and the family moved to smith to run the family farm. The youngest son, Randy, arrived to round out the family. Farming was tough and in 1973 John and Milly moved to Grande Prairie and bought a house with all the conveniences: indoor plumbing, hot and cold water, central heating and an automatic washer and dryer.
The next 23 years saw daughters-in-law, grandkids, friends, and family until John passed away in 1996. Milly lived in the same house until earlier this year. She loved to cook lunches for her sons or anyone who stopped in to visit. There was rarely a day that she didn’t have visitors.
Milly will be missed by sons; Blaine (Kim), Gary (Kelly), Danny (Della), Brian (Jan) and Randy (Diane), grandchildren Brenden (Devon) Wrzosek, Madi (John Crispin), Kelly Rae Whittaker, Afton Wrzosek, Garret Wrzosek, Amanda Waddell (Ryan), Jonathan Wrzosek (Sylvie), Kohnor Wrzosek (Bianca), Spenser Wrzosek (Cierra). She will also be missed by her great grandchildren; Millie Crispin, Lainey Crispin, Nicholas Whittaker, Carson Whittaker, Ariana Whittaker, Reid Waddell, Brenna Waddell, Cayson Waddell, Brielle Gibson, Everly Gibson, Jamie Wrzosek, and Kayden Wrzosek, as well as four sisters, one brother and many other family members and friends.
Milly was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, two brothers, 3 sisters, 5 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law and many other nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Milly on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church (10404 102 Street in Grande Prairie, Alberta).
