Obituary For Karen Leslie
August 5, 1961 – September 19, 2024.
In Loving Memory
Karen was born August 5, 1961, in Fort St. John BC. She grew up on the Leslie family farm in Two Rivers, with her parents, Lorne and Gail Leslie, and her three sisters and brother. After high school graduation, Karen lived in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek for a few years where she worked with youth in group home settings while she pursued social work studies. Karen moved to Vancouver in 1992 where she lived for several years. She loved the city and met Rick Benoit there. Together they welcomed their son, Bjorn in 1998. When Bjorn was about two, they moved to Wainwright for a short time and then returned to the Peace Country and settled in smith, AB where she lived until her passing.
Karen lived her life in ways that showed her love for her family, her friends and her faith. She loved family get-togethers and singsongs, camping and fishing and being outdoors. Karen loved to travel and over the years went to Mexico, Ecuador, Arizona, Boston, Vancouver Island, Quebec and Ontario with friends and family.
In 2011, Karen worked with her sister, Shirley and her niece, Natalie to open the GoHealth store. Together, they built a customer centered business in smith and then later in the new store in Grande Prairie. Karen was a big part of the business and she helped everyone who came to the store with a welcoming energy and with her whole heart and soul.
Karen passed away on September 19, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta after an unexpected battle with cancer.
Karen was predeceased by her mother, Gail Leslie (2003), her father, Lorne Leslie (2010), her sister, Brenda (2022) and her niece, Natalie (2023). She will be forever remembered and missed by her son, Bjorn and his dad, Rick; brother, Evan; sisters, Shirley (Deryl) and Barb (Steve); brother-in-law, Rob; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.
