Obituary For Joseph Gilbert Laurent Hansen

Gilbert passed away in Grande Prairie, AB., November 13/23 in his 82nd year. He was born November 26, 1941 in East New Annan, Nova Scotia, son of Folmer and Helene Hansen (Campeau). He was the eldest of 10 children, with 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Raised by loving grandparents, Hans Christian Hansen and Camille Hansen (Laurent), he grew up in the community of East New Annan.
He attended the Truro Road School and later, North Colchester High School in Tatamagouche. Gilbert was never too interested in school but most happy when working on cars or anything mechanical. This made him very popular with his peers.
At the age of 24, he moved west to British Columbia working various jobs throughout the province. Living in Surrey he ran an insulation business for many years then finally settled in Cloverdale, living and working at the Clydesdale Inn for approximately 22 years becoming a part of their community. In August, 2020, because of health issues he moved to Grand Prairie, AB. to live with his niece, Angela, daughter of our late brother, Marcel, where he was well cared for, then moving July 2021 into long term care residing at The Heritage Lodge.
Gilbert is survived by his brothers, Raymond (Shawn), Ft. Myers, FL., Leroy (Bernice), North River, N.S., sisters, Karen, Edmonton, AB., Suzanne, Guelph, Ont., Camille (Jean Claude) Apesteguy, East New Annan, N.S. and Linda (Jim Dodge), Truro, N.S., also many nieces and nephews who live in Y.T., B.C., AB, Ont, N.S., N.L., Georgia and Florida. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Louise Mingo in 1988, brothers, Paul, 1998, Marcel, 2017 and his parents and grandparents.
We express our appreciation to Harry Pamma and his family (Clydesdale Inn staff), Cloverdale, B.C., for their friendship and support. Gratitude for Angela and Denis Jodoin for their unconditional love and kindness given to Gilbert, also staff at The Heritage Lodge where he resided the last few years of his life.
Cremation has taken place and a “Celebration of Life” for Gilbert will be held in N.S. at a later date.
