Obituary For Ava Rose Raadik
February 23, 1947 – November 15, 2023
Ava Raadik (nee Lawson), mother, sister, auntie, colleague and friend passed away peacefully November 15, 2023 at Mackenzie Place, Grande Prairie, Alberta. Ava was the second youngest child of Vera and Max Lawson when born in Rimbey, Alberta in 1947. After her time in high school she moved to Edmonton and completed studies to become a nursing attendant, graduating in 1967. She soon thereafter moved to Peace River, and worked at the Peace River General Hospital.
In 1969 Ava and Mart Raadik were married and they had two daughters; Tracy and Trudy. Ava lived and worked in the Grande Prairie area for 40 years and was well known for her work as a unit clerk at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and Home Care office, until her retirement in 2016. Ava loved shopping, dancing, bowling, camping, and her dogs.
We are taking some time as a family to grieve her loss. She was a strong, fiercely independent, and courageous woman who prided herself on her long career in healthcare.
If you wish, donations can be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation Memorial Gifts, gphospitalfoundation.ca/donate/ whereby an engraved commemorative plaque will be placed on a memorial wall in the GP Regional Hospital. Donations may alternately be made to the Canadian Lung Association www.lung.ca/donate
An intimate Celebration of Life will be held on the first weekend of June 2024 in the great outdoors of Jasper National Park where Ava, her family, and beloved pets had many adventures camping, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
Thank you to everyone who was a good friend to Ava. We are forever grateful for the impact you made in her life.
Miss Me – But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me – but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me – but let me go.
