Mark Freake Obituary
With a heavy heart and deep love, the family of Mark Matthew Freake shares the news of his peaceful passing in Lethbridge, Alberta, on August 15, 2024, at the age of 68.
Mark was born on October 25, 1955, in Baie Verte, Newfoundland, to Leonard and Cecelia Freake. In the early 1970s, Mark bid farewell to the familiar landscapes of Baie Verte and sought new horizons in the vibrant City of Toronto, Ontario. Subsequently, he made his way to Calgary, Alberta, where he met, and married Colleen Northcut in June of 1980 and they started their family.
Mark dedicated himself to his career at Western Canada Steel as a devoted Lead Hand/Spellman until its closure in 1994. Undeterred by this change Mark pursued higher education at SAIT (with Distinction) to become a Metallurgist. Shortly thereafter, seeking work, Mark relocated to Southern Alberta to embrace the slower pace of small-town living, where he could indulge in his hobbies of fishing, playing chess and guitar, as well as spending quality time with family.
Mark will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his four children: Robyn Freake, Christopher Freake (Marie), Jessi Beck (Adam), and Justin Freake (Lisa). He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Tarren, Brenden, Riley, Hailey, Aiden, and Marlene. In addition, Mark will be dearly missed by his siblings: Joan (Patrick) Marche, Carmel (Lane) Graham, Valda (Ray) Payne, and cousin Frank Downey as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
Mark is predeceased by his parents Leonard and Cecelia Freake and sister Ellen (John) Hurley.
We mourn Mark’s passing but find comfort in the cherished moments we spent with him; the laughter, the conversations and the lasting impact he had on our lives.
